WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas Has Record $40 Million Guarantee - iGaming Player

The WPT World Championship of poker is set for December 12-21 at the Wynn Las Vegas and will feature a record prize pool of $40 million.

The WPT decided to expand the guarantee for the WPT World Championship, which increased from $15 million last year to $40 million this year.

ā€œThe WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is poised to reach new heights and we wanted to match that expectation with a guarantee that no live poker tournament has ever seen before,ā€ said Adam Pliska, WPT CEO. ā€œThe journey to December begins now, and we plan on giving players another unforgettable experience at Wynn Las Vegas.ā€

ā€œThe astonishing support and excitement weā€™ve seen from the poker community after just one year is nothing like Iā€™ve seen before,ā€ said Ryan Beauregard, Executive Director of Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas. ā€œWe look forward to the 2023 WPT World Championship and hosting another industry-leading event with an unparalleled player experience.ā€

By raising the guarantee, the WPT expects even more players will flock to the Wynn and take a shot at the prestigious title.

Eliot Hudon Banked $4.1 Million in 2022

The tournament organizers didnā€™t even come close to an overlay at the Wynn Las Vegas last December. The 2022 WPT World Championship attracted 2,960 entrants and generated a prize pool worth over $29 million, which nearly doubled the $15 million guarantee.

Eliot Hudon from Montreal, Canada was the last player standing at the Wynn Las Vegas, and he banked $4.136 million for winning the 2022 WPT World Championship. The WPT guaranteed $2 million to first place, and they didnā€™t have to sweat it. Thanks to the massive prize pool, the champion earned more than double the initial guarantee.

The 2022 WPT World Championship final table included Hudon, Benny Glasser, JC., Moussa, AdamAdler, Frank Funaro, and Colton Blomberg. Glasser, a British pro and five-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, finished in second place behind Hudon.

The 2022 WPT World Championship paid out 371 players, and Tony Dunst secured a min-cash when he busted in 371st place. Other noteworthy pros who went deep and cashed at the Wynn Las Vegas last year included Daniel Negreanu, Lynn Gilmartin, Kyna England, Jeff Madsen, Kane Kalas, Kristen Foxen, Cary Katz, Igor Kurganov, Brad Berman, Noah Boeken, Freddy Deeb, Brandon Cantu, Jeremy Ausmus, Richard Seymour, Eric Baldwin, Frank Kassela, Romain Lewis, Alex Keating, Dan Smith, John Monnette, Nick Binger, Jared Jaffee, Anthony Zinno, Espen Jorstad, Ben Yu, Kathy Liebert, Maurice Hawkins, and Christian Harder.
